DP Javier Aguirresarobe and The Etruscan Smile

We also recently completed work on The Etruscan Smile.

We were very lucky to work with Javier Aguirresarobe, DP for The Road, The Others and currently shooting Thor 3.

It's rare to work with someone with such vast experience over such a long period of time. And it's rare to work with someone with such a remarkable vision for colour theory and accuracy.  Javier really has a 'secret sauce' for creating exceptionally beautiful images.

The film was filmed using two Arri Alexa XT's, shooting Arriraw.

Grant McPhee was the onset DIT, using LiveGrade Pro with it's remarkable ability to allow the user to grade to previously shot set-ups live.  The rest of the set-up included a Leader monitor, A Flanders Scientific DM250, Tangent Wave panel and Preston Iris handsets.

Calum Weir was the DMT, backing up all footage on a nMac Pro running Pomfort's Silverstck XT for integration with Livegrade Pro.

Ben McKinstrie was the Dailies Colourist, running Davinci Resolve for a fairly seamless and very colour accurate workflow from start to finish.

The film stars Brian Cox, Thora Birch and Rosanna Arquette and will be released in 2017

A WRAP on Trainspotting 2

That's a WRAP on the eagerly awaited new Danny Boyle film, Trainspotting 2.

One of the most enjoyable (and toughest) shoots we have been on, ever.

The job was set up and run by legendary (and nicest man in show business) DIT Dan Carling and we helped out with the second unit and some additional work on the main unit. .

A visually stunning film, shot by Anthony Dod Mantle using Alexa XT's shooting Arriraw. And a couple of very exciting prototype cameras that unfortunately can't be talked about (yet).

There will be more to talk about later but in the meantime here is the teaser:

The Realities of Producing Outlander - The Look of Outlander

Here's a little more background on Outlander. Now that we can talk about it!

There's lots of interesting thoughts from Neville Kidd, the DoP on the look of the show. And a little mention of me (Grant!).

Under The Skin

Grant McPhee worked with the fantastic Mission Digital on the new Jonathan Glazer film, Under The Skin.

Here's an article by Mark Purvis, their Managing Director on the very tough challenges faced.

When Mark mentions 6 TB, that was only for the hidden cameras in the van.  There were days when there were 8 cameras in the van but also 3 exterior One-Cam's and 2 Arri Alexa's shooting Arriraw!

Digital Onset facilitating Outlander for Starz

Digital Onset are very proud to be working on 'Outlander'.

Outlander is a 16-part, 60 minute American television series filmed in Scotland for the Starz network.

We are suppling two DITs for the main unit, onset live grading and a dailies colourist suite. And we're dealing with the second unit and splinter units!

A lot of data, but a lot of fun as we travel around the Scottish Highlands in our near-set data lab.

We can't tell you too much about our workflow unfortunately (we would love to) as we don't want to reveal too much about the show.  But we can tell you we are using Pomfort's Livegrade, Davinci Resolve and Light Iron's ToDailies.

It's a whole year of work but we're very excited to see the first episode which will air in the US on the 9th of August (or August 9th as we now say).
